As students enter the room on the first day of class, it is important to have desks organized for optimal engagement and arranged seating according to last name. These seating arrangements can be changed once the teacher becomes familiar with names, student needs, and traits that may be conducive to disruption.

In order to ensure that my students are continuously engaged, I design my units with an endpoint in sight. Posting both the California English Standards for the unit and the measurable objectives for the day

Designing classroom routines for students to follow prevents chaos and provides more time for the lesson. As my students arrive for class, they have become accustomed to the routines, of turning in their homework to the basket, taking out their materials for the day and beginning the warm-up, which is posted before the bell.
